Question 1.

Are Exploring Istanbul and Dersimiz İstanbul courses the same?

Answer:

Yes, UNI 100 "Dersimiz İstanbul" and UNI 100 “Exploring Istanbul" are the same courses. "Dersimiz İstanbul"  is in Turkish while "Exploring Istanbul" is in English.

UNI 100 "Exploring Istanbul" is generally preferred by international students but other students can also enroll in this course.


Question 2.

Can preparatory program students enroll in UNI 100 “Dersimiz İstanbul” from the Core Curriculum?

Answer:

Pre-faculty and upper-intermediate level students at the preparatory program can take “Dersimiz İstanbul”.

Course registration of student who takes UNI 100 “Dersimiz İstanbul” course is made by Student Affairs and later they are informed accordingly.


Question 3.

The quota of the course I want to receive this semester seems to be full, what should I do about the issue? Can you help me?

Answer:

UNI xxx registered student capacity is full. Therefore, you should submit your written request to the Core Curriculum Office, indicating that you want to enroll in the course but you cannot do it as there is no vacancy so that your demand for quota increase is evaluated. But, we should emphasize that it is possible you are most likely to have a negative response for your request due to not possible conditions.

As Core Curriculum Program, we make every effort to offer all curriculum courses in each semester insofar as possible. 


Question 4.

Is it compulsory to take both UNI 203 “Understanding Science and Technology” and UNI 204 “Understanding Nature and Knowledge” courses?

Answer:

The course group- named as Core Courses Cluster III- is formed of UNI 203 “Understanding Science and Technology” and UNI 204 “Understanding Nature and Knowledge”, UNI 205 "Understanding Science and Environment", UNI 207 "Understanding Religion", UNI 209 "Understanding Cultural Encounters" and UNI 211 "Understanding Art and Architecture" courses.

There is obligation to take and successfully complete only one of these courses. Those who successfully complete only one of these courses are considered to meet their liability in the Nature and Science Cluster group. 


Question 5.

If I took both courses in the “Core Courses Cluster III” group (UNI 203 and UNI 204), can it be counted in my course obligation? How?

Answer:

Although there is no obligation to do so (see Question 4) if students take and successfully complete the both courses, one of these courses are counted for the Nature and Science Cluster group while the other one counted for General Elective course obligation.


Question 6.

Can I take UNI 222 “World Civilizations and Global Encounters: Since 1300 CE” course before taking UNI 221 “World Civilizations and Global Encounters: Until 1300 CE” course?

Answer:

UNI 221 “World Civilizations and Global Encounters: Until 1300 CE” course is not pre-requisite to UNI 222 “World Civilizations and Global Encounters: Since 1300 CE” course? However, we do not recommend our students who haven't taken UNI 221 to take the UNI 222 course in view of their academic standing.

Our recommendation to students is to take UNI 222 “World Civilizations and Global Encounters: Since 1300 CE” after  UNI 221 “World Civilizations and Global Encounters: Until 1300 CE"  course.


Question 7.

Is “Formation of Modern Turkey” course compulsory?

Answer:

UNI 201-202 “Formations of Modern Turkey I-II” are compulsory in Core Curriculum. You can look at the course schedule of your college/school-department and learn the semester when to take the courses.
